Tom Bamberger
Poppy, 3rd June, 2017
Inkjet pigment print
44-1/4 x 54-1/2 inches

Bamberger's portrait of a poppy celebrates its silken texture and unmistakable hue. Such a symbolically-laden plant is bound to evoke different associations in different viewers. Perhaps the poppy calls to mind John McCrae's patriotic WWI poem "In Flanders Fields" (In Flanders fields the poppies blow / Between the crosses, row on row...), or the American Legion, for which it is the official flower. Or perhaps you see a beautiful picture that would complement an empty wall perfectly.
