at the Keauhou-Kona Surf & Racquet Club a few miles south of Kailua-Kona on the island's sunny leeward cost. The area's deep-sea fishing grounds are world renowned. A favorite playground for residents and vacationers alike, the Kona Coast is drier and sunnier, perfect weather for growing rich coffee and macadamia nuts.
Some of the island's most spectacular scenery is north of Kona. Along the Kohala Coast, the verdant hills of the countryside roll down to the ocean where you'll find some of the island's best swimming beaches.
Catch your breath in the small ranch towns of Waimea and Kamuela before continuing around the Hamakua Coast to Hilo. Stop at the Waipio Valley Lookout, Akaka Falls State Park, and the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden to see huge monkey pod trees and more than 1,000 species of plants.
Another scenic drive takes you south of Kailua-Kona to Pu'uhonua o Honaunau's historical monument at Kealakekua Bay. A few miles and a few lava flows beyond is the City of Refuge National Historic Park.
Back at the condominium, there are tennis courts, a swimming pool, and barbecue areas at the Keauhou-Kona Surf & Racquet Club. It's fun to go to the Kailua pier and watch the fishing fleet glide in with the day's catch around 4:00 p.m. It's even more fun to charter a fishing boat and angle for your own big billfish!
When the sun goes down, enjoy an evening of fine dining and Hawaiian entertainment on the Kona Coast.
