Born May 25,1932 on Funkhouser farm near Mt. Jackson in Shenandoah Valley, VA. Worked at many jobs from age twelve such as farm labor, pin setter at night in bowling alley, construction labor, sheet metal shop, lawn mowing, etc.
A high school drop-out (GED) played four years professional baseball. My wife (Penny Freeman of Lebanon, TN) and I were married in 1955. I spent two years in Army. I worked for Publix Super Market as a painter and started my striping business in 1959 in Lakeland FL. I sold my Florida business in Oct. of 1992, bought a tract of land (353 acres in the boon-docks of western KY, built a house and lived there until I sold out in Sept.1998. We have been proud residents of Greenville NC since 1999.
I have enjoyed many things in life such as a loving family, building 3 houses, flying my Interstate Cadet (tail-dragger) airplane, water skiing, bowling, tennis, billiards and I still love working in my business and most of all, throwing baseball, plus I can't forget my love of art.
I think my paintings show who and what I am about and if interested you can read short, true stories with a lot of my 150 paintings on www.funkhouserartist.com. I don't think I am and I hope not pretentious. I don't sweat negative opinions of me.
