"When my husband had his accident last year, our lives changed literally overnight. He has always been extremely athletic - long distance running, bicycling, and extreme skiing were his passion. I am an independent creative. His immobility and dependence, and my role as caretaker were completely foreign to us. We didn't know what we were going to do; how we were going to cope and where life would take us.

The minute we were rolled into Craig Hospital, we felt like we'd come home, like there was hope and life after a traumatic injury. The first day, waiting in the lobby, I was shocked at all the apparently happy people in wheelchairs with their families. By the end of the day, the Craig environment seemed normal.

We were at Craig Hospital for 8 months, 4 inpatient and 4 outpatient with the NRN program. It was a roller coaster ride. I learned more about patience, sacrifice and love than I ever had. My husband learned how to accept help and be vulnerable.

"Life Anew" is the only painting I did in 2017. I had to paint it. My whole life revolved around the hospital and figuring out what would come next. The hospital was our home, or family, and our future. We are eternally grateful. Craig is a beautiful place - and the painting shows the bright future each patient and their families face when leaving."
