Value of $900. "Andy" framed Polychrome Archival print. 32" x 21" . 2015. The work is about the act of looking; the images are printed in a CMYK ben-day dot separation so the closer you get to the image to get a better look at the beautiful nude body, the harder it is to see the print. It turns into dots. One has to step away to see the image and, as such, a productive tension emerges between our desire and our ability to satisfy it. This work is sometimes a single image, sometimes a diptych. The other body of work Paul Baker Prindle is known for are large images taken at sites across the US where gay men, lesbians, and trans folks were murdered. This work has been published/talked about on NPR, Out, Advocate, Towleroad, and other places. The work looks very mundane and purposefully. I'm interested in the challenges of the site, questions about what the photograph can actually tell us and what it purports to tells us, memorial, the connections between sex and death.
