Surfrider Foundation's One Ocean Gala
October 7, 2023 | 5:00 PM

The Ecology Center - San Juan Capistrano

Every year, Surfrider hosts fundraising events in support of our mission to protect the world's ocean, waves and beaches. One of these lively events will take place in October at The Ecology Center in San Juan Capistrano, CA, a beautiful regenerative farm. The event rallies one of our largest and most dedicated communities, to celebrate coastal victories and raise critical funds to support the hard work of our coastal defenders. Most importantly, our events are the place where we continue to cultivate the friendships and vibrant networks of people who form the core of our grassroots organization.

Event guests will enjoy beautiful views, craft cocktails, silent and live auctions, live music by Slenderbodies, and an incredible seated dinner prepared by Chef Michael Campbell. Back again, this year's event will also feature an incredible art auction -- 30 selected works curated by Charles Adler.

Our event brings together 300+ supporters, along with celebrities, media, and cultural icons from across the country who all share a passion for protecting the place we love -- our ocean.

Honoree: Chase Offield

Chase Offield has been a long time supporter of the Surfrider Foundation. As an avid surfer, fisher, and waterman, Chase comes from a long family history of philanthropy and environmental conservation. Son of Paxson "Packy" Offield and member of the family behind the protection and conservation of Catalina Island, Chase has been passionate about conservation from a young age. Beginning in 1972 the Offield/Wrigley families deeded over 70% of Catalina Island into a non profit conservancy. Through its ongoing efforts, the Conservancy protects the magnificent natural and cultural heritage of Santa Catalina Island, stewarding approximately 42,000 acres of land and more than 60 miles of rugged shoreline. This deeded land remains one of California's oldest land trusts.

Growing up on Catalina Island, Chase developed a love and passion for the ocean that continues today. He has leveraged his family's legacy to direct multiple ocean related causes including Billfish research, White Seabass rehabilitation, sustainable commercial fishing practices, removal of destructive offshore gill nets and various Surfrider plastic reduction campaigns in Hawaii and California. Chase is currently Chairman of the Offield Center for Billfish & Catalina Seabass Fund, Vice Chairman of the International Gamefish Association, and Director of Wrigley Institute for Environment and Sustainability. In the past, he also served as Chairman of the Billfish Foundation, Masters Angling Tournament and Tuna Club Foundation. He lives in Laguna Beach with his wife, Jena, and their two children and loves spending time on the water or at the beach, surfing, fishing and traveling.

Through his work with the Surfrider Foundation and the many other organizations he is involved with, Chase and The Offield Family Foundation have been instrumental in the protection of our ocean and coasts for future generations to enjoy.
