Student Opportunities for the
2023 Targeting Excellence Minnesota Sporting Clay Scholarship Classic
Thank you for your interest in attending the upcoming Targeting Excellence Sporting Clay Scholarship Classic. This event is an excellent opportunity for you to network with food animal ag industry professionals and learn about future employment opportunities and career paths. There are several ways you can participate in the upcoming Minnesota event.
Why Should You Attend the Minnesota Event?
- All students can attend the event for FREE.
- Students who attend the event EARN BONUS POINTS for his or her 2024 scholarship application. Many times these points determine if you get a scholarship.
- The event provides an opportunity for you to meet and interact with a number of people from both production systems and allied companies within the food animal production industry. A student who attends the event and is assigned to a team will spend 2-3 hours interacting with these individuals.
I do not want to participate in the shoot. Should I still attend the event?
- The event will provide other opportunities for networking even if you do not want to shoot.
- You can be assigned to a team to serve as a score keeper.
- There are also opportunities to help with serving lunch and other functions related to the event.
- Attending the event - even if you do not shoot - ensures you EARN BONUS POINTS for your 2024 scholarship application
Additional Questions & Answers
- I would like to shoot at the event but I do not have a gun. Is there one I can borrow? Generally speaking we will be able to provide you with a gun to use at the event. Please indicate that you need to borrow a gun in your registration so we can plan accordingly.
- I would like to attend the event but I do not have transportation to get there. Do you provide any options for getting to the event? We will either provide a van/bus for students to ride to the event or we will pair you up with someone who is planning to attend the event.
- I would like to attend the event but I am not sure I can afford the gas needed to get to and from the event. Do you provide any reimbursement for travel expenses? We will have a limited number of gift cards available for students who drive to/from the event to help with travel expenses. We also recommend that students carpool where possible. If you would like to ride with another student please request transportation assistance as part of your registration.
- How do you assign students to teams for the event? We try to assign a student with a team of individuals who work in a similar field or species. Targeting Excellence needs to know your current major/species/future career plans in order to effectively make these assignments. Please make sure you enter this information when you register for the event.

If you plan to attend the event for the whole day please make sure you select an AM & PM selection for your registration. You only need to register for lunch if you do not plan to attend either AM or PM. Everyone who attends either AM or PM is assumed to also attend lunch.

All donations received for Minnesota will be allocated 100% to the 2024 scholarship awards in Minnesota.
Targeting Excellence awards scholarships to students who demonstrate a clear path to working in Food Animal Agriculture upon graduation. These scholarships are only possible through the generous support of our donors and sponsors.
The mission of Targeting Excellence is to sponsor events that bring together professional leaders of agricultural businesses, production systems, and institutions of higher education - with students - for the purpose of building personal relationships, exchanging ideas, and improving communications, while raising funds for scholarships.
