Angela Jaggar, who holds a Ph.D. in education from New York University, began her career as an elementary school teacher in Plainview, NY. She then entered the field of higher education becoming Professor of Education at New York University. During her tenure at the university she taught and conducted research on children's language and literacy development, co-founded and directed the University's Reading Recovery Project, served as consultant to various state Departments of Education and school districts across the country, and held many leadership positions in professional education organizations, including serving as President of the National Conference on Research in Language and Literacy.
Since her retirement from NYU in 2000, Angela has devoted her time and energy to working with not-for-profit organizations that serve diverse communities. She has served on the Board of Directors of the Belmont Child Care Association, Inc. (BCCA), Literacy Volunteers of New York City (now Literacy Partners), and Landmark on Main Street, Port Washington's historic community and performing arts center. She recently completed a 12-year term as Trustee of Adelphi University and is currently a Trustee of Family and Children's Association, the largest social service agency on Long Island.
To further their support for those in need, Angela, and her late husband, Scott, established the Angela and Scott Jaggar Foundation that supports initiatives to improve quality of life for children and their families through education, the performing arts and social services. The Jaggar Foundation has generously supported BCCA by providing grant funding for several BCCA programs since 2003.
