In this mixed media image by Wyland, the artist uses his artistic imagination and photography to depict the first moments of a humpback's deep dive in search of food. "At one time before whaling, there were about 15,000 humpbacks in this area of Alaska," Wyland says. "They've made a comeback, but scenes like this are still rare."
