Philippa Lee Karteron 2022 York College Foundation Gala Community Pioneer Honoree
President and CEO of Galleria Noire

Philippa Lee Karteron is the President and CEO of Galleria Noire, a full-service Art, Marketing, and Planning Company; specializing in exhibits, events, project management and development, public-private partnerships, economic and workforce development, and empowerment. Through her many years of expertise in aviation and transportation, Karteron has garnered numerous community, civic, and service awards. She is a current Board Member of the JFK International Airport Chamber of Commerce, serving as Chair of the Legislative Affairs Committee and as the Political and Inter-Governmental liaison. In 2018, Karteron was appointed to the JFK International Airport 13-billion-dollar Redevelopment Project Advisory Council by Governor Andrew Cuomo. At York College, Karteron is a member of the Tuskegee Airmen Project Advisory Committee and is one of three Founders of the CUNY Aviation Institute at York College. In addition, she serves on the Board of Directors of the York College Auxiliary Enterprises Corporation.

Karteron opened and operated the first Twin Tower Center in the United States, immediately after 9/11. She was commissioned by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to open and operate the AirTrain Recruitment and Training Center as a unique pilot program for New York City's newly established Workforce 1 Career Center-- a partnership between the PANYNJ, the City of New York, and the New State Department of Labor. She received a Citation from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for her historic work with the Airtrain Project. Karteron serves on a number of boards, many of them aviation-focused.

It is only fitting that York should be honoring Karteron at the TWA Hotel tonight: She was the Coordinator of the 50/50 Anniversary of the JFK International Airport, which celebrated the renaming of the world-class airport after John F. Kennedy as it reached its 50 millionth passenger.
