Julie Shea is a treasured volunteer, member, and student at the Clay Studio of Missoula. After almost 40 years with the US Forest Service in silviculture and fire management, Julie celebrated her retirement from the Agency in March 2020. After four years working clay, she still considers herself an amateur potter, but we think she's a little too hard on herself.

"Working clay has been a wonderful distraction during the Covid 19 shutdowns. At the turn of 2021, I took on a personal challenge - '100 days of clay' ... the start of the Clay Studio of Missoula 2021's Potsketch, will be day 90. I am for the most part, self-taught in the artwork I do outside of ceramics - beadwork, painting, weaving, etc. By age 10, I appreciated and collected functional ceramic pieces - comes from my mother who traveled all over New Mexico, Southern California, Arizona, Colorado collecting ceramics. I describe working with clay as a creative, beautiful, unpredictable, frustrating ... but addictive artform! I look forward to continuing my journey with clay from here on out!"
