DODGEBALL RULES
TOURNAMENT:
The tournament will follow a double elimination format, ensuring each team plays at least two games
Games last five minutes with a "sudden death" rule in case of a tie
Games will be played in the Grace Place gymnasium, as well as the soccer field
Balls are 6" foam dodgeballs
TEAMS:
Teams can consist of up to 8 co-ed ADULT players
Games are played 6 vs 6 players
Each team must start with a minimum of 2 female players
Players can only play for one team
Team uniforms/costumes are encouraged, but not required
Maximum of 2 teams per company or organization
HOW TO WIN:
Be the first team to eliminate all players of the opposing team or have the most players remaining when time expires on your match. There are 5 minutes allotted per game. If there an equal number of players remaining on each team after 5 minutes, the match becomes "sudden death", with the next elimination determining the winner.
RULES:
Volunteer referees and a timekeeper will oversee the matches. Games are 5 minutes long, with "sudden death" in event of a tie. Each team will play with 6 players, and each court will have 6 dodgeballs, placed on the center line, with 3 on the left and 3 on the right. When the game starts, teams scramble to get the balls to their right. Balls that go out of play can be retrieved by team members or bystanders and are returned to the opposite team, that didn't throw the ball out of play.
You're out if:
You get hit by a live dodgeball anywhere but your head/face
An opposing player catches a live ball that you threw
You intentionally go out of bounds to avoid being hit
You step on or cross the center line
You're NOT out if:
You got hit in the head/face
The ball that hit you bounced off someone else (only one person can be eliminated per throw)
The ball that hit you was thrown by someone out of bounds or over the center line
You're hit by a ball that was first deflected by another ball
A teammate caught the ball that hit you before it hits the ground
An opposing player caught a ball you threw after it was first deflected
Returning to the game:
If a team member catches a live dodgeball, one member of your team may return to the court in the order that they were eliminated.
Definitions:
- Live dodgeball: A thrown ball that hasn't touched any surface, person, or object
- Dead dodgeball: A ball that has made contact with a surface, person, or object
Substitutions:
No substitutions are allowed within a match except in the case of an injury. Players can switch out between matches.
Note: Referee decisions are final. They are volunteers and this is for charity, so be honest and play with sportsmanship and don't give the referees a hard time.
