Jeannie Trouveroy
Jeannie Trouveroy has dedicated the past 35 years to philanthropy, focusing her volunteer efforts on nonprofit organizations that strive to enhance the lives of young people and families. Her long-standing commitment demonstrates a sincere passion for making a positive impact on her community.
In 1991, Jeannie joined the New York Junior League (NYJL), an esteemed organization currently celebrating 125 years of service. The NYJL is committed to empowering women's leadership and driving meaningful change in communities through volunteerism, collaboration, and training. From the outset of her involvement, Jeannie contributed to numerous community committees, supporting the NYJL's community partners and their missions.
In 2004, Jeannie co-chaired the Provisional Training Committee, which received the Committee of the Year Award. Jeannie has served on the Governance Committee, Human Resources, and Strategic Planning Committees. She has also served in key roles, including Training Manager on the Board of Managers and Director at Large on the Board of Directors, further demonstrating her commitment and impact within the NYJL. Currently, she serves on the Board of Directors as Chair of the Nominating Committee, which selects the leadership of the NYJL.
Jeannie's exceptional dedication was formally recognized in 2006 when she received the NYJL's Outstanding Volunteer Award. This prestigious honor is awarded to only five women each year out of 1,800 active volunteers, underscoring the significance of her contributions. In 2022, her continued commitment was further honored with the Outstanding Sustainer Award, recognizing her efforts to share her knowledge and expertise with other non-profit organizations outside the NYJL. Since 1962, 78 women have been recognized as Outstanding Sustainers, and only 23 have achieved the distinction of receiving both the Outstanding Sustainer and Outstanding Volunteer Awards, highlighting Jeannie's remarkable service record.
Since 1994, Jeannie has devoted her volunteer efforts to Dancing Classrooms, a nonprofit organization that creates programs for public middle school students. The organization aims to promote self-esteem, social awareness, and enhance academic performance through the art and practice of social dance. Beginning in 2009, Jeannie became a member of the Board of Trustees and served on the Executive Committee. She chaired the Board Development committee, coordinated several successful galas and led the implementation of additional fundraising activities. She introduced the paddle raise and subsequently a live auction to fundraising events, strengthening support for the organization. Her leadership in these initiatives has played a crucial role in sustaining Dancing Classrooms' ability to serve approximately 200,000 children across the five boroughs.
The curriculum focuses on social dance as a medium for engaging students and nurturing collaborative leadership skills. It aims to promote self-esteem, social awareness, and enhance academic performance through the art and practice of social dance among students in public elementary schools. The impact of Dancing Classrooms was highlighted in the 2005 documentary "Mad Hot Ballroom" and the 2006 feature film "Take the Lead," in which Antonio Banderas portrayed founder Pierre Dulaine.
Jeannie's involvement with Dancing Classrooms began at its inception, and she has taken great pride in witnessing the program's transformative power as it helps students pursue their dreams. Jeannie finds great satisfaction in witnessing the children's growth in confidence through the Dancing Classrooms programs. She notes the pride on their parents' faces as they watch their children perform dance routines, underscoring the meaningful and transformative impact of her volunteer work.
