Main Session Speakers
Maria Asis, MD
Dr. Maria C. Asis is a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist with over three decades of clinical, academic, and community service experience. She has been in private practice since 1993 at Generations OBGYN of CT. As Clinical Instructor at Yale School of Medicine, she has mentored and taught medical and PA students for many years.
Dr. Asis earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology, magna cum laude, from Tufts University's Jackson College, and her Doctor of Medicine degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center.
Deeply committed to the intersection of nutrition, lifestyle, and women's health, Dr. Asis pursued advanced training in culinary medicine, earning certification in 2025. She has integrated this discipline into her professional and volunteer work. She volunteers as a nutrition and culinary instructor at Hill House High School, participates in community-based food and wellness events, and supports student-led initiatives such as the Food is Medicine Group. She enjoys giving healthy cooking classes to OBGYN residents and nurses. Her grant-funded project, Health Information Literacy in New Haven Public Schools, included the development of a healthy cooking video series for New Haven students and their families.
Dr. Asis is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a member of the Menopause Society as a certified menopause specialist. Her excellence in teaching has been recognized with the Lee Buxton Award for Medical Student Teaching (2017) and the Stanley Lavietes Award for Resident Teaching (2022).
Born in Córdoba, Argentina, and fluent in both English and Spanish, Dr. Asis brings an international perspective to her practice and education efforts.


Allen Hsiao, MD
Allen Hsiao MD, FAAP, FAMIA, is Professor of Pediatrics, Biomedical Informatics and Data Science, and of Emergency Medicine at the Yale School of Medicine and serves as the Chief Health Information Officer (CHIO) for the Yale School of Medicine and Yale New Haven Health System. Dr. Hsiao also serves as the Vice Chair Clinical Systems, Biomedical Informatics and Data Science.
He received his BA in Biomedical Ethics and MD from Brown University, then completed residency training in Pediatrics at Yale before completing fellowships and board certifications in Pediatric Emergency Medicine and Medical Informatics. He has served on numerous medical informatics-related committees for the Hospital and University, as well as nationally for groups such as the American Academy of Pediatrics, Health Information Management Systems Society, and the National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions.
Dr. Hsiao has published many articles in the pediatric and healthcare informatics literature and regularly presents nationally and internationally on leveraging informatics and the electronic health record (EHR) to support research, optimize systems, and improve transitions of care. He has also served as primary investigator or co-investigator on several NIH and AHRQ-funded grants examining the ways health information technology can impact and improve healthcare. Dr. Hsiao also co-directs the Informatics Core for Yale's Clinical Translational Science Award (CTSA) from the National Institutes of Health. In this capacity, he works closely with the Yale Center for Clinical Investigations leadership to equip investigators with the tools and information needed for translational and clinical research. This includes leveraging the industry-leading functionalities of the EHR (Epic) system and the clinical trials management system (OnCore) for investigators and patient-focused research, with particular emphasis on expanding clinical trials participation by patients from diverse backgrounds to improve health equity and inclusion in clinical research.
As the CHIO, Dr. Hsiao leads the medical and clinical informatics work for the Health System and School of Medicine.

Latha Alaparthi, MD
Dr. Alaparthi joined YNHH system Nov 2023 as Associate CMO for Bridgeport Hospital Milford Campus. After training at Yale GI fellowship and remained on faculty as community GI MD until transition Dr. Alaparthi Schooled in India and completed Internal medicine residency at Yale affiliated program through Norwalk Hospital and Gastroenterology/Hepatology training through Yale University. She joined a prestigious community Gastroenterology practice (PGC) and remained in practice for nearly 22years. During this time, Dr. Alaparthi held several leadership positions within her practice and affiliate organizations as managing partner and executive board member. She was Chief of Gastroenterology and President of Medical staff at Milford Hospital prior to integration with Bridgeport system. Nationally, she volunteered in several organizations (AGA, ASGE) to promote education and training for physicians, women's leadership, ergonomics, advocacy, DEI etc. She was most recently President of a national advocacy organization representing Gastroenterologists in private practice (DHPA). Dr. Alaparthi is passionate about women's health, equality, health education, access to care and emerging technologies supporting healthcare.
Bradley Biskup, PA-C
Bradley "Brad" Biskup, PA-C, is a board-certified physician assistant and lifestyle medicine specialist at Hartford HealthCare in Connecticut. With a background in exercise physiology, Biskup focuses on managing cardiovascular diseases by integrating principles of lifestyle medicine, exercise, nutrition, and tobacco dependence treatment into his practice. He is a diplomat of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM), a board member for the ACLM, and has been instrumental in launching lifestyle medicine programs at UConn Health and Hartford HealthCare.

Murali Chiravuri, MD, PhD
Murali Chiravuri, MD, PhD is a board-certified clinical cardiac electrophysiologist and cardiologist with extensive experience in the field, including holding leadership positions at Bridgeport Hospital as President of the Medical Staff. He graduated from Tufts University School of Medicine and completed his residency and fellowships in cardiology and electrophysiology at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. His specialties include treating heart rhythm disorders like atrial flutter and heart blocks, and he is recognized for his contributions to cardiac research, including stem cell research that was highlighted by the American Heart Association.
Gail R. Cole, M.S., RDN, CDN
Gail Cole is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with more than 15 years of experience in nutrition and wellness. Clinically trained at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell, she has delivered medical nutrition therapy across inpatient and outpatient settings, including primary care, pediatrics, eating disorders, women's health, and behavioral health. Her career spans leadership roles as a Registered Dietitian and Corporate Wellness Specialist in industries including manufacturing, executive health, community services, and currently at Yale New Haven Health, where she oversees system-wide wellbeing programs serving more than 30,000 employees. Gail earned her Master of Science in Nutrition with a Public Health minor from New York University and a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics with a minor in Psychology from the University of Rhode Island. She also holds certifications in Adult Weight, Management, Lean Six Sigma, Human Resource Management and Mental Health First Aid.
Carlos Davila, MD
Carlos D. Davila is a dual, board-certified Interventional Cardiologist and Advanced Heart Failure specialist with further training in Structural Heart Interventions. His clinical expertise focuses in performing coronary interventions, invasive hemodynamics, mechanical circulatory support, and structural heart interventions including: PFO/ASD closure, alcohol septal ablations, trans-catheter aortic and mitral valve replacement (TAVR and TMVR), left atrial appendage closure (Watchman), MitraClip, and other interventional therapies for patients with advanced heart failure.
Dr. Davila completed training in Advanced Heart Failure/Transplant Cardiology (AHFTC) and Interventional Cardiology at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts where he was the recipient of the Robert Kung Fellowship award. He completed further training in advanced structural heart interventions at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School. He is one of the few cardiologists in the country who is board certified in both: advanced heart failure and interventional cardiology.
Dr. Davila completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Einstein Medical Center where he was also selected to serve as a Chief Medical Resident. He earned his Medical Degree at Universidad Central de Venezuela graduating with honors. He is also a former postdoctoral research fellow of the NYU Langone Medical Center Cardiovascular Research Program. He has published several papers in the field of cardiogenic shock, acute mechanical circulatory support, structural interventions in advanced heart failure, and others.
Carlos strongly believes in providing multidisciplinary, evidenced based, compassionate, and comprehensive treatment of the highest standard for all of his patients.
Gabriele Di Luozzo, MD
Gabriele Di Luozzo, MD, is a board-certified cardiac surgeon specializing in aortic disease. He is currently the Chief of Cardiac Surgery at Bridgeport Hospital and an Associate Professor of Cardiac Surgery at Yale University School of Medicine.
Dr. Di Luozzo's primary clinical focus is on aortic conditions and advanced surgical procedures. In July 2022, he was appointed Chief of Cardiac Surgery at Bridgeport Hospital. Before joining Yale, he spent over 17 years at Mount Sinai in New York City, where he held several key roles. These included Director of Aortic Surgery and Director of the Aortic Aneurysm Surveillance Program. He also served as an Associate Professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He was Director of the Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm Program from 2013 to 2015.

The Rev. Dr. Benjamin Doolittle, MD, MDIV
The Rev. Dr. Benjamin Doolittle, MD, MDIV, is Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics at the Yale School of Medicine, and Professor of Religion and Health at the Yale Divinity School. He is Director of the Yale Program for Medicine, Spirituality, and Religion, and Program Director of the Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Program. He also serves as Pastor of Pilgrim Congregational Church, New Haven, CT.
Safa Hakim Elnazer, MD
Dr. Safa Hakim Elnazer is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Yale University, specializing in Vascular Neurology. In addition to her expertise in stroke management, she also treats headache and facial pain. Dr. Hakim Elnazer completed her medical education at Stony Brook University, followed by a Neurology residency and Vascular Neurology fellowship at Yale. During her training, she created "Neurology Exam Prep," a widely used podcast and valuable resource for neurology trainees, alongside several research and outreach projects.
As a faculty member, her clinical and research interests focus on Women's Neurology, particularly addressing access to care. She is developing educational curricula for neurology trainees to improve the management of women-related neurological conditions. Through her work in New Haven and Bridgeport, she is also committed to developing clinical programs that address the vascular neurological needs of underserved populations.
Joseph Feuerstein, MD
Dr. Joe Feuerstein is a consultant, physician in integrative medicine and has treated over 45,000 patients with serious medical conditions using only natural approaches.
He is an assistant professor of medicine at Columbia University in New York, Quinnipiac University, school of medicine, and the University of Arizona Center for integrator medicine, an author with a number one new seller on Amazon and regular guest on "Zoe today with Damon Davis show "on the Word network, the largest faith based African-American television network in the world.
He is also the cohost of the award-winning Internet cooking series "condition, kitchen" with international celebrity chef Daniel Green.
Raj Gala, MD
Dr. Raj Gala is an orthopedic and spine surgeon known for his expertise in treating spinal disorders, including stenosis, deformity, trauma, tumors, and herniated discs. He graduated from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, completed his residency at Yale New Haven Hospital, and finished his fellowship at Emory University Hospital. Dr. Gala practices at Yale New Haven Health Bridgeport Hospital, where he offers minimally invasive and robotic spine surgery options. Dr. Gala's research focuses on population health, including the factors that influence whether someone experiences back pain or a fracture. He's also involved in research exploring nerve blocks for pain management.
Saber Ghiassi, MD
Dr. Saber Ghiassi is an Associate Professor of Surgery at Yale School of Medicine and the Director of Bariatric Surgery at Bridgeport Hospital. He is a general surgeon with special expertise in minimally invasive, robotic, and bariatric surgeries.
He obtained his Medical Degree (MD) from Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University (2004) and completed his General Surgery Residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, where he served as administrative chief resident. He went on to the Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery Fellowship at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Derek Kai Kong, MD
Dr. Derek Kong is board-certified in Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. He graduated from Tufts University and earned his medical degree from Yale School of Medicine. He completed residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and further did a fellowship specializing in advanced endoscopic sinus and anterior skull base surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. He specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of sinonasal disorders, including allergy, rhinosinusitis, and sinonasal tumors. His research in head and neck surgery and pediatric otolaryngology has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals.
Shannon Kay, MD
Dr. Kay was born and raised in New York City. She attended Manhattan College, where she earned her bachelor's and master's in chemical engineering. She then went to Stony Brook University for medical school and then the University of Michigan for internal medicine residency, including a chief year. She went on to complete her fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Yale, where she completed an additional T32-sponsored research fellowship. During her time as a fellow, she was awarded the CHEST Foundation grant in Women's Lung Health and has since spent her research efforts on identifying the contributions to sex differences in asthma. Clinically, she spends her time caring for patients in the Yale Center for Asthma and Airways Disease as well as in the intensive care unit. She serves as an Associate Program Director for the Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship and is active in medical education across the School of Medicine.
Erin McKnight, MD
Erin McKnight, MD is a double board-certified internal and obesity medicine physician serving as Associate Director of the Hospitalist Service at Yale New Haven Hospital. She also serves as Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. McKnight brings over a decade of clinical experience with a strong focus on hospital operations, transitions of care, and interdisciplinary collaboration. She leads the Hospitalist Post-Discharge Team and contributes to system-level initiatives as a member of the Yale New Haven Health System Readmission Steering and Pillar Committees.
Wajahat Mehal, MD
Wajahat Mehal, MD, DPhil is a Professor of Medicine in Digestive Diseases at Yale University School of Medicine and Director of the Yale Fatty Liver Disease Program and Yale Metabolic Health and Weight Loss Program. He specializes in fatty liver disease (both non-alcoholic and alcoholic), obesity medicine, and endobariatrics, offering comprehensive weight loss interventions, and he conducts NIH-funded research on inflammation and fibrosis in liver disease. He received his MD from the University of Oxford, his DPhil from Oxford University in Immunogenetics, and completed his residency and fellowship at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Jensa Morris, MD
Jensa Morris completed her undergraduate at Princeton University, medical school at Mount Sinai School of Medicine and Internal Medicine training at the Brigham and Women's Hospital. Dr. Morris specializes in the care of hospitalized patients. Over her career at Yale New Haven Hospital, she has been a leader in perioperative medical management of surgical patients, specifically orthopedic and neurosurgical patients. She was the medical lead for the Hip Fracture Co-management Service and the Arthroplasty Preoperative Optimization Program. Dr. Morris now leads the Smilow Hospitalist Service, dedicated to the care of hospitalized patients with cancer. Dr. Morris has a strong interest in quality improvement, education and team building on the inpatient medical services.
Brandon Oto, PA-C
Brandon is a critical care PA in Connecticut. Formerly an EMT, he completed a generalist critical care residency at Johns Hopkins, and since has worked in multiple critical care environments across the Eastern US treating a spectrum of medical, surgical, cardiac, trauma, and neurocritical care populations. He is interested in medical education, mechanical ventilation, diagnostic reasoning, resuscitation, ICU liberation, vascular access, and point-of-care ultrasound. Elsewhere, he co-hosts the podcast Critical Care Scenarios and teaches at the online Intensive Care Academy.
Samantha Panzica, PA-C
Samantha Panzica is a Physician Associate specializing in burn care at the Connecticut Burn Center in Bridgeport Hospital. With experience in the acute and long-term management of burn patients, she is dedicated to advancing evidence-based practices that improve patient outcomes and quality of life. Samantha has a strong interest in multidisciplinary collaboration, patient education, and quality improvement initiatives within burn and critical care. She obtained her B.S. in Neuroscience from Binghamton University in 2011 and graduated with her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies in 2014.
Louis Rosen, APRN
Louis A. Rosen is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) specializing in palliative care and pain management at NEMG/Bridgeport Hospital in Connecticut. He is a highly educated and experienced healthcare professional with a career spanning several decades and two different fields of work. Rosen earned a Master's degree in Nursing with a focus on Family Nurse Practitioner from Sacred Heart University between 1999 and 2002. He was recognized at graduation with the Award for Most Outstanding Thesis and was a member of the Sigma Theta Tau honor society. He also holds a Master's degree in Social Work from the Columbia School of Social Work, which he completed between 1981 and 1983.
Christine Rowland, PA-C
Christine Rowland is an experienced Physician Assistant with a diverse clinical background spanning over two decades. She earned her PA degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, a Master's degree from Pace University, and a Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) from the University of Lynchburg. She also holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Psychiatry through the NCCPA.
Christine's clinical experience includes pain management, internal medicine, and neurology. For the past 19 years, she has specialized in behavioral medicine, working across a variety of settings, including inpatient, outpatient, adult, geriatric, consultation-liaison, addiction, and emergency psychiatry.
Currently, she serves as a clinician at Recovery Network of Programs, a residential facility dedicated to supporting adults with mental health and substance use disorders. In addition to her clinical work, Christine is the Assistant Coordinator for Didactic and Clinical Education at the University of Bridgeport Physician Assistant Institute, where she plays a key role in training the next generation of physician assistants.
Carly Smolick, RD, CDN, CHC
Carly Smolick is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and Certified Health Coach through the National Society of Health Coaches with over 20 years of experience spanning acute care, long-term care, skilled nursing, school nutrition, public health, and employee wellbeing. She earned her degree in Nutrition with a minor in Kinesiology from Penn State University, followed by a Dietetic Internship at Hunter College in New York City. At Yale New Haven Health, Carly has designed and led impactful weight management and prediabetes programs, leveraging evidence-based nutrition and health coaching to achieve measurable improvements in health outcomes. She engages employees through one-on-one coaching, interactive group sessions, webinars, and cooking demonstrations, equipping them with the tools and confidence to sustain lifestyle change. Her philosophy centers on the belief that workforce wellness is a critical driver of healthcare quality. By empowering employees to prioritize their own health, Carly helps strengthen resilience and performance across the system, ultimately enhancing the care delivered to patients.
Nanthiya Sujijantarat, MD
Dr. Nanthiya Sujijantarat is a fellowship-trained neurosurgeon specializing in endovascular treatment of cerebrovascular disorders. She completed her neurosurgery residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital, including a two-year enfolded neuroendovascular fellowship, and went on to complete a post-graduate neuroendovascular fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Her clinical expertise encompasses ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, brain aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) and dural arteriovenous fistulas (dAVFs) of the brain and spine, head and neck embolization, tumor embolization, embolization of chronic subdural hematomas, and carotid stenosis management through carotid endarterectomy (CEA), carotid stenting, and transcarotid artery revascularization (TCAR).
Dr. Sujijantarat is actively engaged in research and education. She has delivered multiple oral presentations at national and international conferences and contributed as both author and reviewer for several academic journals. Her scholarly achievements have been honored with the Dennis D. Spencer Award for Academic Achievement and the Residency Teaching Award at Yale.
Born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand, Dr. Sujijantarat brings a global perspective to her work. Outside of medicine, she is passionate about animal welfare and serves as the president of the Sujijantarat Animal Sanctuary (SAS) which provides care for over 300 rescued animals in Kanchanaburi, Thailand.
Dr. Sujijantarat is committed to providing evidence-based care and advancing neurovascular science through research, education, and collaboration on both national and international levels.
Kristen Turnbull, RD, CDN, CHC
Kristen Turnbull is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and Certified Health Coach through the National Society of Health Coaches, originally from Nova Scotia, Canada. She joined Yale New Haven Health in 2022 and brings extensive experience from ambulatory care, hospital-based nutrition education, and community health. Her areas of expertise include women's health, prenatal nutrition, weight management and chronic disease prevention, sports and performance nutrition, and body image counseling. Currently pursuing a Master's in Nutrition and Human Performance, Kristen integrates advanced training in behavior change science with evidence-based nutrition practice. She is passionate about helping individuals unlearn restrictive or outdated approaches to health, replacing them with sustainable habits and mindset shifts that support long-term well-being. At YNHHS, Kristen focuses on employee wellness, providing health coaching and counseling that emphasize resilience, confidence, and sustainable change. She believes that when employees care for themselves, they are better equipped to thrive at work and deliver exceptional care to patients, making workforce wellbeing a cornerstone of patient outcomes.
Brian Wojeck, MD
Dr. Brian Wojeck is an Assistant Professor at Yale University in the Section of Endocrinology. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Arizona and his Master of Public Health from Emory University. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Mayo Clinic. He completed subspecialty fellowships in sleep medicine and endocrinology at Yale University. He has additional training in obesity medicine and is a weight management specialist. His clinical and research focus is the comprehensive management of the interrelated disease processes of diabetes, obesity, and sleep disorders.
Dario Zagar, MD
Dario Zagar is a neurologist and Associate Professor of Neurology at Yale School of Medicine, with a special interest in headache and mind-body medicine. He is known for his empathetic approach, partly due to his own experiences with chronic pain and migraines. Dr. Zagar earned his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1999. He completed his neurology residency at the Neurological Institute of New York at Columbia University Medical Center, serving as Chief Resident, and then a fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology there. He joined Associated Neurologists of Southern Connecticut in 2004, eventually becoming a Managing Partner. He became a faculty member at Yale University in 2019 and is affiliated with Yale New Haven Hospital and Bridgeport Hospital.

Lauren Boggs, PA-C
Lauren obtained her undergraduate degree in Biology from Fairfield University in 2007, followed by a Bachelor of Nursing degree from Southern CT State University in 2011. She worked as a registered nurse in cardiology at St. Vincent Medical Center for five years and concurrently completed a Master of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Bridgeport in 2017. She started her PA career with the NEMG Primed Cardiology group in Trumbull, where she has remained and recently completed her eighth year with the group. Her primary role is as the inpatient APP for their service at Bridgeport Hospital, which focuses on the acute management of cardiac conditions including but not limited to acute coronary syndromes, congestive heart failure, and arrhythmias. She is a member of the Bridgeport Hospital APP council. She also routinely precepts PA and NP students for their cardiology electives.
Elizabeth Marhoffer, MD
Elizabeth (Beth) Marhoffer, MD, is an assistant professor of general internal medicine at Yale and the Section Chief of Hospital Medicine at VA-Connecticut. She has her Certificate of Professional Achievement in Narrative Medicine from Columbia. With Kim, she co-facilitates with the VA Writes Program, a national self-reflective writing group for employees. She has two teenagers and a dog, and she loves yoga, paddle boarding and writing.
Jonathan Weber, PA-C
Jonathan Weber is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine and Director of Didactic Education at the Yale School of Medicine Physician Associate Program. He helped pioneer the Yale New Haven Hospitalist Medicine service in the late 90's and has practiced internal medicine in the YNHH and Yale University health systems for 27 years since graduating from the Yale Physician Associate Program.
Professor Weber currently practices at the Yale Medicine Diabetes Center working with medically complex patients with diabetes and specializes on the individualized integration of diabetes technologies and lifestyle medicine. His academic interests focus on improving clinical outcomes and quality of life for patients with chronic diseases. He is nationally known for leading CGM workshops and presentations, and for creating CME activities on diabetes management with the American Academy of Physician Associates, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the Endocrine Society. Presently, he is involved in efforts to improve the use of CGM devices in the primary care setting.
Kimberly Heil, ATR-BC, LPC, is a board-certified art therapist and licensed professional counselor with over 10 years of experience in mental health and therapeutic settings. She supervises art therapy and psychology interns, fostering growth and expertise in emerging professionals. Kimberly is also a VA writes facilitator and leads transformational art and wellness workshops across Connecticut, dedicated to promoting holistic healing and well-being through creativity.
Calin Calabrese, CRNA, DNAP
Calin Calabrese has been a Board-Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist since October of 2016. He is a graduate of Yale New Haven Hospital School of Nurse Anesthesia program, where he completed his Master's degree in Biological Sciences: Anesthesia Practice degree in 2021 from Central Connecticut State University in 2016. He received his Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice degree in 2021 from Central Connecticut State University. Currently, he provides clinical anesthesia in the adult, obstetric, and pediatric anesthesia departments at Yale New Haven Hospital. As faculty, Dr. Calabrese lectures on the fundamentals of anesthesia and Point-of-Care Ultrasound.
