Dr. Judith Lightfoot
Nominated - The Advocacy Award
I am honored to nominate Dr. Judith A. Lightfoot - a powerhouse of compassion, leadership, and advocacy - for this prestigious CPAC award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to HIV/AIDS prevention, education, and care within the LGBTQIA+ community.
For over 25 years, I have had the privilege of knowing, collaborating with, and championing Dr. Lightfoot's unwavering dedication to advancing healthcare equity and dignity for LGBTQIA+ individuals, particularly those impacted by HIV/AIDS. Her commitment goes far beyond clinical expertise - she has been a tireless educator, advocate, and ally who meets people where they are, with both heart and science.
As Chair of the Department of Medicine and Chief of Infectious Disease at Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Lightfoot has created inclusive, patient-centered care models that empower those living with HIV/AIDS to thrive. She has led efforts that integrate medical case management, mental health, gynecology, physical therapy, and peer support - all with cultural sensitivity and a deep respect for the lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ patients.
Her community engagement is unmatched: lecturing at schools, faith-based health fairs, and community centers; mentoring generations of future physicians; and donating her personal time to guide patients toward wellness, education, and opportunity.
Nationally recognized as a trailblazer in infectious disease medicine, Dr. Lightfoot has been honored by governors, senators, and professional associations alike - yet it is her decades-long, hands-on work with the LGBTQIA+ community that defines her legacy.
She is not only a leader in medicine, but a trusted voice and tireless advocate for those who are too often overlooked. Dr. Lightfoot embodies the very spirit of this award, and I cannot think of a more deserving recipient.
