A look back...
Our 2023 & 2024 HWISPA-NY Annual Galas raised $69,000!
Thanks to the generosity of corporate and small business contributions to our silent auction and enthusiastic participation among our faculty, staff, and parent community, HWISPA-NY raised $31,000 in 2023 and $38,000 in 2024!
How Our Money Was Spent:
1) $24,000 toward Multifunctional Space in the Gymnasium
TOTAL PROJECT COST: $25,000
Completed September 2024
- $23,000 = Retractable stage, acoustic treatment, and adjustable lighting to allow the gymnasium to double as a performance hall
- $900 = One additional cafeteria table to complement existing, foldable cafeteria tables stored on-campus, allowing the gymnasium to double as a lunchroom since installation costs for wall-mounted table systems exceeded available funds
HWISPA-NY goals achieved upon project completion:
- Reduced noise from the gym during P.E., indoor recess, and performances
- Created functional multi-use spaces
- Allowed socialization over meals across grades and language tracks
- Enabled a lunch staff rotation to alleviate daily lunch coverage duties for faculty
- Encouraged student housekeeping roles and responsibilities (wiping down tables, sweeping the floor, conscious waste disposal)
- IN-PROGRESS: Implementing compost, recycling and rubbish disposal bins for sustainable waste management practices that meet the standards of the NYC Department of Sanitation Clean & Green Schools' partnership with the GrowNYC Zero Waste Schools program

2) $20,000 toward Preschool Play Space Renovations
TOTAL PROJECT COST: $50,000
Anticipated completion by September 2025
- Climbing wall
- New flooring
- Permanent and semi-permanent sensory elements

3) $10,000 toward K-8 Art Classroom and Makerspace Enhancements
TOTAL PROJECT COST: $30,000
Renderings expected May 2025
Anticipated completion by September 2025
- Ensure our humanities and science programs remained a hub of inspiration and empower our teachers to continually expand both the Makerspace and woodworking curriculums in the 2024-2025 academic year.
- Further implementation of hands-on STEAM-focused activities that influence the lives of aspiring inventors, young entrepreneurs, and future engineers.
- Enable an evolving creative environment to constantly nurture our students' problem-solving skills, enhance their technological literacy, and embrace the spirit of creativity.
And, of course, some leftover change for HWISPA-NY and The Navigator's Fund!
Academic support and enrichment programs operated by HWISPA-NY are only possible because of parent volunteers and supporters like you! Initiating and sustaining efforts for our class parties, teacher gifts, student clubs and extracurricular activities, parent and family socials, fundraising events, Field Day, and much more are powered by HWISPA-NY dues, donations and volunteers. Existing and future implementation of even more of the incredible ideas regularly presented by our parent community are always in the works, so many thanks for the continued support and ongoing generosity offered through your money, time, and talents!
The Navigator's Fund financially supports other organizations that provide Spanish or Mandarin language and cultural education for children at the preschool through 8th grade level in the New York City metropolitan area, including teacher training, student scholarships to attend language education schools or programs, teacher scholarships for coursework or degrees in second language instruction or early childhood or elementary education, Artists-in-residence or other musical/visual arts groups to expose the children to the art, music, and culture of Mandarin and Spanish speaking countries, and more!

HWISPA-NY 2024 Annual Gala:
HWISPA-U
Our parents applied to don their alumni apparel, favorite NCAA fan gear, or Greek letters at HWISPA-U! Their university admission included entry to the event, participation in the silent & live auction, college-chic fare & signature open bar. In support of HudsonWay Immersion School's ongoing sustainability upgrades, the gala featured industrially compostable and recyclable elements throughout the venue.
