How Bidding Works
Single Bid v Autobid
A single bid can be placed as a one time bid for any amount. An autobid can be placed and set at your maximum amount you are willing to spend. With autobid, our system will place your bid at the minimum amount needed to lead. When you are outbid, our system will bid automatically for you until your maximum is reached.
Who wins?
When two bids are placed for the same amount, the bid placed first based on the timestamp wins. Timestamps are set when the initial bid is placed, for autobids this is when a maximum was set not when the system prompted the bid to win.
Why are there bids with the same amount?
We list competing bids of the same amount to indicate what prompted an autobid to be placed. Otherwise, it would be unclear as to why an autobid was increased.
For Example, Item 100 has a current amount of $100 and a bid increment of $50. John placed an autobid at 7:00pm with a maximum amount of $200. John is winning at $150. Jill placed a bid for $200 at 7:30pm. John's bid is increased to $200 by our system. John wins because he committed to the amount earlier than Jill. The list shows both John and Jill at $200 so we can see what prompted John's bid to increase.
Are there opportunities to purchase works before the event?
YES! Auction items may be purchased at the "Buy It Now" price, calculated as 150% of retail (including framing, if applicable) on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 between 10am and NOON to VIPS.
NOTE: Once bidding begins at NOON Saturday, April 26, "Buy It Now" is no longer available. Bidders will be able to set up a "Max Bid" if desired and artwork will sell to the highest bidder.
Contact Lorie Mertes 305.576.8570 or director@locustprojects.org for more information.
Are tickets required to bid in the auction?
No, tickets are not required to bid in the Auction, but are required to attend the Spring Fling Fundraiser 2025 Space Oddity on Saturday, April 26
There are multiple ways to support Locust Projects' Spring Fling: purchasing a ticket for the event on April 26; joining the Host Committee and inviting your friends; and purchasing or bidding on Auction artwork!
Is my artwork purchase tax deductible?
Depends, only the amount paid above the fair market value of the artwork noted on your receipt can be considered a charitable donation, so bid up those artworks. It's for a worthy cause after all with up to 50% of the sale price going to the participating artist.
How or when will I be able to collect or receive my artwork purchase?
There will be four options available to those with winning bids on auction artwork:
IN PERSON, ON APRIL 26: Smaller artwork may be taken home the night of the event, once it is packed by our team members and your final bid verified. Check-out will be available beginning at 9:15pm.
PICK-UP: Artwork may be picked up at Locust Projects beginning Tuesday, April 29 at no additional charge. Pick-up is available Tuesday-Saturday, 11 AM to 5 PM. Works not claimed by May 10 will be returned to the artists and proceeds divided by Locust and the artists. Buyers relinquish their payment and ownership. This is essential as we do not have storage facilities at Locust Projects.
DELIVERY: Should you need assistance with the delivery and/or installation of your artwork, and you live in the Miami-Dade County, you may opt in for free delivery. Installation services are an additional fee. Costs may vary.
Local Delivery and Installation Fee: Minimum $50 for the first hour and $50 for each additional hour. Buyer covers the cost of materials or rentals if necessary.
Rates subject to vary based upon location of delivery and installation.

SHIPPING: The cost of shipping work will be the responsibility of the final bidder and estimated using FED EX and/or UPS estimates and billed separately. Upon Artist's receipt of payment for the Artwork from Locust Projects, Artist shall arrange for packing and shipment of the Artwork to the Buyer (to be disclosed by Recipient following the auction) at Buyer's sole cost.

Locust Projects will provide a receipt of purchase. All winning bidders will get a receipt at the end of the auction that lists all purchases with the fair market value of each item vs. the purchase price. The receipt will serve as document for provence and tax purposes if over the FMV. Certificates of Authenticity available upon request.
